The important thing is to promise to do what is good for the U.S.A. He is not swearing in to be Pope.

I'm not about to force my religious beliefs upon anyone. Sharing a religion with someone is a shorthand way of understanding where they come from and the things they were taught. Not that they learned all the lessons but they were exposed. The religious background is a good place to start when getting to know a person. There are a gods plenty of Christians I have no truck with though.
Being a Christian gets you a seat at the table but it certainly does not ensure a nights stay. I believe Jimmy Carter to be about as devout a Christian as can be hoped to hold the office of President. He truly meant to do good things, and did so. In many ways he lacked the ability to lead this nation through tough times. Obama has demonstrated much the same characteristics without as definable a religious background, attending church being different than believing in God and all his teachings.
Again I believe his taking an oath upon the Bible is disingenuous at best.
