7 round clip adjustments
« on: February 17, 2004, 06:47:31 PM »
I have and love a Springfield 1911 WWII 45 acp. I wound up with 10 - 7 round clips out of the 10 , 1 does not hold the slide back on the last fired shot or by just pulling the slide back. I was told to adjust the lower foot on the clip, but it doesnt seem to help at all. My primary dealer just tossed me another one and said sorry about that and lkife goes on. Can you adjust the clip ?

MONGO - it's not worth the trouble or effort and may not resolve the problem.  You can get new innards but the body of the magazine may be kaputz or just poor quality.

Your dealer did the right thing - he gave you a replacement.  I would go with it.  If you like shooting this pistol and/or if you like carrying it, I would advise getting a bunch of good quality aftermarket 8 rounders - I have half a dozen Chip McCormicks and they have never failed in either of my 45s.  HTH.  Mikey.

McCormick's does have an eight round conversion kit, spring and follower, if you should get one before I do, would you post how it works?

It's real easy to adjust the lip on the magazine follower. Use a flat tip screwdriver and insert it between the right edge of the lip and the left edge of the follower. Bend the lip untill it is out as far as possible without dragging on the magazine wall. Put the magazine in the gun (empty) and pull the slide back. The lip should catch the slide lock and hold the slide back. Some followers are defective and despite your best efforst, just won't work.

The 8 round followers have shorter legs to make room for an extra round. In most magazines, they work quite well. Some magazines are a little loose and allow the follower to bind up or not lock the slide back.  Wilson makes the best 8 round magazine by far.
