Lyman stainless deerstalker 50 cal 1-32"

This is the one that has the 1-32" twist.    It took me a while to find a consistently accurate load with this.   Of course PBR at hunting velocities were all over the map, but it did shoot incredibly well with PBR with 50 gr of RS.    Sabot loads with 44 cal 240 and 245 gr cast and jacketed bullets, but I found that 10-20% of the shots were massive flyers/keyholes when the sabots didn't separate cleanly.  These were with the Hornady green sabots.    Went to Hornady GPR 385 gr maxi balls and found acceptable accuracy at 90gr of RS.  ~1.5" @ 50yds.... but they kick like a mule.

Anybody have any better luck on finding a reliable accurate hunting load with this rifle and twist rate?

Why was this post moved to MODERN?  The Lyman stainless deerstalker is a traditional sidelock.  It is NOT an in-line.

Did you read the sticky I linked to in the redirect?  If you want any suggested saboted or jacketed loads, they can't be posted in the Traditional forum, any recommendations can be posted here, not just RB or conicals as in the Traditional forum.

thanks.  I did read it.   I had thought my post was regarding a sidelock that I tried with PBR, conicals, as well sabots, and was asking for general advice on accurate loads, not specific to sabots.    The sabots was just part of my note.  Thanks - just trying to follow the rules.

I have good results with 320 gr lee real bullet, 50/50 beeswax alox on a cardboard wad over 90 gr rs for an accurate hunting load. I just shoot 70 gr. for target and they print really good.
Off of paper patched lee 475-325 prints real good as well. Neither one is a huge drop in weight but being able to reduce the charge a bit may help out.
250 gr lee real bullets were to light for my GPR 1-32.

Thanks.  I just bought the 320gr REAL mould and was planning to pan lube with beeswax & olive oil mix.  I'll have to get some wads.... didn't think of them in my testing.  Thanks!

9/16" works pretty good if the material isn't to solid. Gives a little leeway to still seal under pressure. You will probably want a to use a 50 cal jag or .5" wood dowel so the wad goes down straight and doesn't kick sideways on you part way down the barrel.
