With todays' tragedy, the school shootings, the antigun forces are clamoring at the White House gates for gun control. The don't care about the dead or the families of the dead. They just see a political opportunity.

Today I have sent 2 emails to the white house calling shame on those who are using this tragedy for political advantage. I also called shame upon the president and Congress for creating GUN FREE ZONES. All they have done with those signs is tell satans minions that this is a TARGET RICH ENVIRONMENT and it is safe to attack here with impunity.

email or snail mail the white house today and every day to make our point. Schools need ARMED GUARDS not 'feel good' signs that invite evil doers to attack.

I suppose it can't hurt to do so, but I confess I no longer have faith in these types of protest. Sooner or later everyone must face the fact that we no longer have a representative form of government. Those in power will find a way to carry out their own agendas. Outside of divine intervention, I believe we're in for stormy times.

I just received an email from the Front Sight shooting school. They have offered to train 3 teachers from EVERY school in the country! Now that is putting your money where your mouth is. This is exactly what is needed. ARMED GUARDS! This is what has been needed all along. Write to your senate and congress critters. They are to blame for this tragedy. We need armed guards not 'gun free zone' signs.

BBF we need armed guards today because we have raised 2 generations that were never held accountable for their actions. When there was corporal punishment at home and in schools we did not have such things happening. We all know the difference between punishment and abuse.

Also the USA has uncontrolled illegal entry on our southern border. All manner of criminal and illegal substance has arrived and continues to do so. With criminal gangs fighting for neighborhood control it is no surprise that being armed is the only way to stem the tide of violence.

Am I on the wrong thinking path here. Those totally violent video games I see being popular has got the be a desensitizing influence on young people.

BBF I believe you are absolutely on the right track. After racking up body counts in the games it makes doing the real thing much easier. The US Army has found that virtual reality training for Abrams, Bradley and Apache crews short cuts the training to do the real thing. The connection is absolute.

I wholeheartedly disagree with the notion that violent video games are desensitizing young people. I grew up on games like Grand Theft Auto, yet I still have a strong sense of right vs. wrong and fantasy vs. reality. I think the same goes for most mentally stable young people in America. When things like this happen, the conversation is always reduced to the lowest common denominator - guns and violent tv/video games. Was Hitler a fan of first person shooters? What gave him the idea to kill millions of people and start a word war?

SharonAnne - you mentioned that we've raised two generations that have never been accountable for their actions. I think you're right, but I think it goes far deeper than that. With that lack of accountability, comes a distorted sense of reality. While that may not have an effect on healthy young people, its problematic for those with any sort of mental illness or deficiency. I think the debate on school shootings should include health care and mental illness in today's youth. If there is a common thread between any of the recent tragedies, I believe that's it.

Anyway, I've strayed way off topic. I, too will be calling my local representatives. I fear any message sent to the White House will fall on deaf ears.

I dont know if its as much the games as it is the parents letting those games babysit for them.

I grew up on Roy Rogers, the Lone Ranger, the Rifleman, etc. I made gunpowder in high school for a rocket to launch and parachute mice down. Never to blow up something. Never occured to us to kill people. Only bad guys did that. Not very many where I grew up. Most crime in my neck of the woods is robbery of some sorts and drugs. Every 5 years or so, someone will kill someone, usually a crime of passion. About 125,000 live in my county. So it's not so bad here. A lot of crimes are aborted by our gun wielding public. Sheriffs department said about 30,000 have CCW permits in my county. That is about 25%. Considering about 25% are kids. That means about 2/3's of the adult population.

I see typical reactions on this around here. Guys will say we dont need them because it surely wont happen up here in Gods country but theres nut cases everywhere. What i mostly see is the typical opinion on schools and teachers and costs that ill use this guy for an example of. One husband and wife that live near me had two sons in high school. Our school was going to cut funding to our football program because they would have need more milage to keep it going. These two and others spend about a month going house to house to get signatures on a petition saying our school needed to provide this for our kids because it was very important to there education. Well they got enough support that it wasnt cut. Two years later when there kids were out of school we had a millage election and the same two were out days before asking for a no vote on it saying that we paid way to much for our kids education allready and there was to much spent on wasted programs in the schools. There kids were didnt need it anymore and they didnt feel they should be paying for it now. I let him know if front of about 15 people how much of a hyprocrit i thought he was!

Funny thing is one of his boys got a scholarship to the local college to play foot ball and 6 months later flunked a piss test and got booted off the team and is now living with his girlfreind that has a kid by another guy and is on welfare. I asked him how much my dollars were put to good use there! I say if you want to have your kids play sports PAY for it and take the money our school systems waste all across the country on football and basketball for a select few and use it to protect ALL of our children by hiring a guard.

I believe what we have here is a failure to communicate (cool hand Luke). Instead of just taking one idea and running with it. We need to do a combination of the afore mentioned proposed solutions. I believe there is no single answer to the problems at hand. If we could get everyone to work together we could find a solution, but until then we are screwed.

Handwritten letters get better response. For instance, people taking time to write a letter translates to say 1,000 voters. An email or phone call is easier and only translates to say maybe 300-500. Write a letter to your congressman, senators, and the president and governors. Also send an email and make a phone call. Then join the NRA, and the GOA, both. More sayso, more influence. If 50 million were members of the NRA vs 5 million, they would definately have a far greater say in legislation.

In the meantime, prep and pray.
