.22 Rimfire Questions
« on: December 30, 2012, 08:43:19 AM »
Hi Veral,

A friend has a brand new CZ 452 with a hammer forged and lapped factory barrel. Do you recommend a break in protocol? Do you recommend Tetra and if so how would you use it?

I use RWS Subsonic 40 gr HP for squirrel hunting as their exterior and terminal performance is superb and the reduced noise helps with harvesting more critters. I use cheap stuff otherwise. The RWS has lots of lube while the cheaper stuff will have less or may be copper plated.  I shoot several RWS rounds before hunting to season the bore for them.

What is your take on using several types of ammo and do you have any advice?

Thanks

That CZ 452 sounds like something worth spending coins for!

I see no reason to break in a 22 rimfire.   Nor to be concerned about sticking with a specific brand of ammo, as none that I've used hs a tendency to foul or lead a barrel in any way that a good cleaning will not remedy.

But tetra lube.  Yes, by all means .  It has helped on any ammo that I've used, and once you use it don't ever clean the barrel unless you see fouling or evidence of the same, which would be accuracy falling off.    The stuff left from even cheap 22 ammo leaves a good protector in the barrel against humidity etc, so don't clean when using that either, unless you see a specific need by accuracy falling off.

Try CCI subsonic HP's.   They are quiet,  quite inexpensive and will probably put as many bushytails into a tail spin as the higher cost Imported fodder does.
