Picked up two 22's last week...
« on: November 27, 2012, 06:50:14 AM »
I have been doing some horse trading and i acquired a Mossberg 42A and a Charco AR-7 rifle's.

Any one have any info on the Mossberg model 42A?
Am I correct in assuming its the same mags as the 41-43 series of rifles?

Sorry no pics just picked this up in a trade. The mossy has USN marked peep site. Shoots good!
The Charco also goes bang and shoots about 3-4" at fifty yards.

I would like a extra mags for both. Gonna try Numrich. I have herd Henry for the AR but there web site dont list mags...

I've heard the Henry mags won't fit any of the other AR-7 brands - I believe they changed the latching notch.
At one time Sportsman's Guide or Cheaper than Dirt (don't remember which) advertised mags for AR-7's.

Brownell's has the magazine and it states at least in the description that they are for the Charter Arms, Armalite or Henry.  8)

. Very nice find CW, that 142A caught my eye as a familiar rifle. Made from 47 through 57 I think. The early ones had the case hardened T-handle. They share the 7rd mag as a bunch of other mossburgs made from the early 40's through the 60's and their not to hard to find. My 140K models clip  is identical to the 142A's, owned by my great uncle. He bought it at a hardware store in 1957 upon learning he had cancer. He drove to a hilltop near malone N.Y and shot himself in the head with it. All I can say is that caliber is not a good one for commiting suicide but it killed him eventually. I received the as new rifle from an uncle in 1995. Its been shot once according to him. It looks new and I haven't done anything but clean it occasionally since then. Real neat little carbine. Thanks for the post, hadn't thought about that rifle in years.  J
