Thinking of ordering a 357 Max. barrel from MGM. Quality? Any comments, good or bad.

Hi,
Just bought a used 6.5x30-30AI used MGM. It is 24 inches long but I am shooting it as a pistol for now. The fit and finish is as good as the rest of my barrels. Have 3 BullBerry and 2 OTT custom barrels (all of which are DUM-DUM accurate at 75 yards, I can cut the stick left behind with a couple of them if I do my part, I'll let you guess which two?), this is my first MGM.  I was FF brass Saturday and shooting 120 gr Rem soft points at 75 yards. One hole groups were not uncommon and a dime would cover almost all the others. This will not be my last MGM purchase.
Deer will be in trouble as soon as my Grandson gets it on a shoulder stock. ;D

Safe Shooting

I own a 10 inch 22 LR match contender barrel in stainless with the MGM scope base.  Outstanding quality, more accurate than the person steering, and very good people to do business with.  I would not hesitate to buy another when the need arises.

If MGM is run by the same folks that run the old Virgin Valley and i think it is. You can't go wrong. When i was into Contenders i had 3 V V barrels and they all looked and shot great.

I currently own 4 MGM barrels and will not buy anything else. SSK barrels are right up there too (have about 6 of these). The Thompson Center barrels I had, I sold in favor of MGM and SSK.

I have had 11 MGM barrels for both Encore and Contenders over the past couple of years. All of them we shooters. I was pleased with every one of their barrels. Their chambers are cut tight and in my experience you will reach max velocity/pressure at a lower charge than stated in books. I too sold all of my factory barrels in favor of the MGM barrels.

The Stratton's have come a very long ways since their VVCG days, all to the good side. When they first started VVCG Steve asked me to test thier prototype proprietary cartridges for them as an old friend from their Bullberry days to help get them "known".   With all the problems they were having with barrels they got a no thanks.   While I did have Justin make custom furniture for me, and have them weld/reblue another custom Super Bower barrel I already had, they couldn't give me a barrel as VVCG.   That was then, this is now and they are the best value in custom TC barrels now, and with a very reasonable lead time.    Still turn out a few problem barrels now and then I've heard, but then who doesn't, just part of the business.   On a budget they are the easy choice.   If money doesn't matter, SSK is the best hands down.   If lead time is not a problem, Bullberry still makes very nice barrels too.    Almost all the many custom barrels I had were made by SSK, Bullberry, and Brown Precision.   Had I been looking for another that was not just adding another JDJ/Super Bower near the end, I would have talked to MGM.  FWIW
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

180 gr. XTP, with a max. load of 296.  It shoots about a 2" group at 50yds. of a rest. I'm sure it would do better if i put a scope on it. No I have never hunted with it.    mc
