Convince me not to do this....
« on: October 04, 2012, 11:05:22 AM »
Received two of the following items in the mail yesterday, and boy are they beefy:

http://www.gmriflebarrel.com/barrelblanksround/175-round-rifle-barrel-blanks/45-acp-heavy-raw-blank,-175-x-125-4140,-116

Convince me not to dovetail-in or tig-on my own underlug, figure out the forend attachment, fit to my SB-2 frame and REAM TO .460 S&W MAGNUM!

Perhaps I've asked the wrong bunch of folks....

I don't know about those calibers but a .45 ACP Handi would be fun.

I think that is the same blank that was  used to make my 45ACP handi.  My only thought is you could buy a 45 colt buff carbine barrel and just ream it to 460 S&W but a liner, stub or your proposed method you could have a 45 ACP or 45 Win Mag, something  you can't make with just a chamber reamer.  That said, all projects are good! 8)

Without a doubt, you came to the wrong place. ;D ;D ;D

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.

Other than .45 Win Mag, is there a better cartridge to put into this barrel?  .45-70 is out of the question as groove size is 0.452, unless is swage off the lube grooves on my .458 lead....

I wish the .45 Win Mag had a bit more length and pressure available.  That'd let me have something that approaches .460 S&W Mag performance while allowing me to shoot .45ACP in the same chamber.

Do they make one-round moon clips to allow shooting .45ACP in a .460 S&W Mag chamber?  8)

As was mentioned already, just buy a Colt Carbine barrel, lots of em around, some even chambered to 460S&W, post an ad in the H&R WTB Classifieds, ya never know, someone certainly has one that doesn't really want to keep it.  ;)
