Lube for fire lapping?
« on: November 09, 2012, 08:56:16 AM »
Hi Veral,

With your fire lapping kit instructions, I am still unclear about something. Should the lapping bullets be lubed or not? Would the lube reduce lead fouling, or would it merely reduce the lapping efficiency?

Thanks

I'm wondering the same thing. From what I read we use no lube, just the lapping compound and shoot the bullet at as low a velocity as possible.

If you use LBT bullet lube it will stop the lap from cutting, completely stop it. (Think about that, should dust get in your barrel on your loaded ammo.   It's a REAL asset to gun life.)

With most of the stuff being sold for bullet lube, lapping speed will not change if bullets have some on them.

My Lap compound is made to be used without lube of any kind though.
