Anyone know what Caliber this is for?
« on: September 21, 2012, 07:47:01 AM »
A friend of mine, recently gave me a .22 rimfire adapter for an unknown caliber.  I'm guessing that the barrel had to be in the .22 cal range, otherwise the bullet would just fly erratically out of the barrel.
But what is unknown is the rifle caliber that this adapter will fit.  Don't know if I'm going to use this, but it would be nice to know what I have.

I seem to have misplaced my caliper,  :-[ so I just posted a picture with a ruler for size reference.

The pictures show: 1. side view - showing length of adapter,
                               2. top view - showing front of adapter,
                               3. side view - showing width of front of adapter,
                               4. bottom view - showing ledge for a .22 rimfire cartridge.

Any help appreciated.  Moderator, if this is in the wrong forum, please feel free to move it.  I just posted it here, because of all the collective knowledge in the H&R section. ;D

Since it is an adapter for a 22lr, due to it's short case, I would guess a .222 Remington.  Getting the exact dimensions, base diameter, length, etc, would be the only way to tell.

Without good measurements I will guess 7.9 X 33 kurz,  the reason I would guess this is the shoulder on the adapter looks as though its not what the chamber it fits in looks like.  The kurz is a fat stubby little cartridge thats case length is much less than the length of this adapter but if the OD of that long neck is smaller than a 8 mm bullet it would chamber.  That would be a odd caliber choice for a chamber adapter to be made in unless its homemade.   :-\

Hello all. Since it's reamed concentric to the bore, and the parent chamber is centerfire, I'm guessing not 22lr at all, but more possibly 22Hornet. The remaining question is 22Hornet adapter for a ???? chamber. There, I haven't a clue. Karl

rio - A long time mystery is solved.  Thank you, thank you!  The funny thing is that I saw the 4 prong aluminum adapters "somewhere" (don't remember where), guess my age is starting to show, but I didn't know, or make the connection that it was a part of the adapter. :-[

gcrank1 - I own a 06, but really don't  think, I'm going to be looking to buy a Browning 1919 machine gun anytime soon.  But it's a thought. ;D
