Getting reloading equipment ready for the 7-30 W
« on: September 21, 2012, 04:28:20 PM »
I am buying the die set (RCBS) for the 7-30W but the funny thing is that I have not bought one yet.  I prefer to get a 21-24" barrel for my G2 TC but I have to admit, the 14" pistol bbl. is also attractive, but it is the rifle bbl. that I should get.  Can anyone tell me what accuracies, velocities and distances are these barrels good for (pros/cons).  Any one care to share some experiences on this subject?  Thank you.

All I know is that I got an antelope at 319 lazered yards with a factory pistol barrel and factory ammo, bang flop.
I have allot of fun with my 7-30

I have a 14 inch factory barrel and 120 grain Noslers and 748 powder works real good in it.

Does the pistol (14" bbl) velocities are significant enough to mushroom the bullet?

Camba,
The 748 load that I use [39.5 grains] pushes the 120 Nosler BT along at 2490 fps and yes that is enough to expand that bullet. This load was taken from the Lyman loading manual.

My 14" bbl will easily do submoa and is fun to shoot.  I hope to take my first whitetail this year with it.

See my comment on the dies in this thread:

My 11 year old niece (best hunting buddy) can tell you that 10 deer have died in front of her 7-30 Waters contender G2 carbine with a 16 1/4" barrel with a muzzle tamer. I started her using 140 gr BTips in front of H322 (to reduce flash) and she had runners after the shot and not much blood trail. I switched her to 120 gr Sierra Pro Hunters and has killed 5 deer with them and they have all died in their tracks or with in sight with a blood trail a blind man could follow. She wont hunt with anything else. Good luck with your 7-30.

I've shot 12 deer with my 7-30 14" with 120 noslers and haven't had to track one yet. The longest shot was 152 yrds and she was right there were I shot her. Most of the bullets recovered are fragments. I love mine.
I bought it for shooting IHSMA and it is great for that too.(metallic Silhouette shooting).

Happy Hunting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am excited about the 7-30W but unfortunately I have not yet gotten a used barrel.  I want the barrel in carabine configuration length because I already have a 357 magnum pistol barrel.
Anyone had tried the Speer 130 grain sp? What about the Speer 110gr? (I have plenty of 130gr that I use in my 7mm-08 rifles)
