45/70 BC
« on: August 29, 2012, 09:08:38 AM »
I have been talking to everone about my H&R BC. I have found that the front sight is to tall. And the rear sight is not the best in the world. I found a 1901 Krag rear sight. The bolt holes are very close. I am going to post some pics. Please let know what uall thing about it.

That should solve your front sight hight problems!
I recently replaced the globe front sight on my BC with a Marble's 1/16" ivory bead .450" high front sight. I loved the looks of the globe sight, but it wasn't worth a flip in the woods.
I'm hoping the new front sight will help me avoid having to scope the BC for hunting. A modern scope just wouldn't look right, and I can't afford one of the replica's that would!
I've got some 460 gr. cast bullets going at about 1500 fps. that I'm itching to harvest some venison with. If the hillside I use as a backstop is any indication, they hit like a freight train!

Looks like it will work.  I put a vernier on mine and like it but I'm going to take the peep off the back and put a Williams open sight because the peep interferes with the tang sight unless your shooting a long ways and its not so great for hunting either.  Maybe then I will have the best of both worlds.   Gotta love the BC.
