« on: August 07, 2012, 01:48:54 AM »
I got a slick 742 in 308 a few days ago, have heard a lot of guys say they like them and a lot that hate them. This rifle looks like it only been shot a little.
I don't know if I will keep it or not,   any advice on these ???                     Thanks                  FBC

I had one like yours for a couple years.  It would shoot an honest 2 inch group at 100 yards when I did my part.  Always kept the chamber clean with a little angled brush from Remington and never experienced a jam.  These are well made rifles!

I have a dime and dozen 30-06 bought in 1967.  Mine still works fine since using only small base dies and mild loads.  I get about a 3" grouping but my scope is a 1-4X Leupold.  Mights do a little better with higher magnification.  If I couldn't have the low power scope, I'd sell mine, but with it, I love it.  Just point and shoot at running deer.  On 2X or lower I can see the end of the barrel through the scope and I think that helps with acquisition.

now. . . .
i didn't say anything was wrong
with 'em. . .
i just said they're stacked up like
cordwood everywhere you look here.
for a while, i got to where i could
look at a gun show table on the
fly, and not hardly have to stop.
i'd be looking and walking- "06-06-
06- - -.243--06-06"
