mini 12 ga shells?
« on: January 21, 2004, 06:04:40 AM »
Has anyone tried the 1.5" mini-shells? How do they shoot/pattern etc.? I have two bad shoulders and am looking for something to use in a single shot that I plan on getting for a truck gun.

Gino,

Sorry to hear about the shoulders.. Have you tried the Winchester Feather Lights.. I use those for cowboy shoots and they are substantially lighter than the Winchester AA trap loads.  They will NOT function any sort of auto.  I have only found em in #8 shot which is just fine for what I am doing but these might be an easier to find alternative.  Payin about $5.00 a box around these parts for them now.

They are NOT the ultra light loads they actually say feather light on the box in real small letters and have a gold feather on the box.

Just a thought...

Haven't tried them but did read a review or two of them and they were positive on them. Some reduced power but much reduced recoil. Sounded like a good deal if recoil reduction was wanted or needed. Dunno about cost and availability tho. I've never yet seen any in a store for sale.

My brother picked up some Aguila 2"(?) shells at a gun show several years back. Very mild recoil but only available in #8 or slugs. The Hogdon annual manual has load recipies for both 2" and 2 1/2" if you reload and want to take a wack at loading your own mini's.
Just another worthless opinion!!

If you reload you might put some together with 1oz of shot and a slow velocity. My brother is doing this in Win AA hulls so his son can shoot his shot gun.

Only thing my brother has taken a liken to them also. I warned him that when he moves back up to his hunting load the lead will change. Any comments on this?
