I like the Break Free CLP myself. It rates pretty good at cleaning lubing and protection. You will find oils that do a better job at say two of the three but all around the Break Free is pretty good choice. I have other lubes I'll use for specific situations.

I think you did good. This has been talked about many times, and it always brings up a wide variety of answers. Two common ones that people have high regard for are Eezox and CLP Break Free. I like to use Break Free CLP. I think there are a few products that may be better, like Eezox. I like CLP because I can get it anywhere from the local Mom and Pop gun store to the Walmarts and I think it is the best you can get for something you can get any where.

Gun oil is like under drawers everyone has a different opinion as to which type is the best , you just need to change the drawers more often ;D

My grandfather swore by 3 in One oil.  But he wiped them down so often I think he could have used bacon grease.  I love Eezox and Ballistol.  You will find they smell like grapes or dead fish and gasoline...figure it out.  If I can't find them then CLP.  CLP has teflon so I wouldn't put it down the bore.  When I shot an AR15 in NRA High Power it took a few rounds to settle down after CLP was in the bore.  Not good if you are hunting cold bore.  You are likely to get as many opinions as which is the best motor oil to use.  And that would be Castrol GTX.   ;)

Maybe not 'the best' but purty dang good: 2/3 odorless mineral spirits to 1/3 ATF .

I'm a cheap so I just use ATF right out of the bottle.  It's also pretty good lube for drilling and tapping.  If all I have is motor oil, I will dilute it about 50/50 with mineral spirits.
