Valmet 412 vs others?
« on: July 04, 2012, 03:22:33 AM »
Been wanting a combo gun for awhile now.  Which is better, the 412, 512 or finnclassic?  Seems that i read somewhere that the 412  was the best of the bunch.  Looking for a 12/30-06.  Found a 412 minus barrel for less than 600, then just have the get the other barrel fitted from what i understand.  Opinions? Anyone know of any that might be for sale?

The 412 were made in Finland.  The others are made in Italy.  In my opinion the guns made in Finland are fantastic.

the 412 12/30-06 is nearly impossible to find just like the 412 12/308.

The 12/30-06 is a fantastic combination for Texas and hog hunting.

Due to the demand the 12/30-06 and 12/308 are hard to find and carry a premimum.  The best option is to set up a search on the internet sites that send email alerts.

I just picked up a pristine 12/308 to go with the 12/30-06...

Also, the double triggers really make a difference.

Doug

what about a new set of barrels for an old 412?  Are the new ones good?  Found the old 412, but need a new set of barrels.  Found a guy that will sell a new set of barrels fitted for 795.

That is a good price.  I have not tried the 412 receiver with the newer barrels.  But I understand others have tried it without issue

if you go that route you should also get the double triggers, you wont be disappointed.

I'd have about 1900 in it with a new barrel 412 action and scope mount.  Would this be about right as to what they are selling for

Do you really need it now?  Or can you wait several months?

 ;D Well Robert,
I have the same thing which I understand is super rare.  Do you know how many were made?
To me the 12/9.3x74R is the ultimate hog combination.
The only thing better would be a Merkel 12x12/9.3x74r drilling with a 2/4x Zeiss scope.  8)

That is an excellent price.  Let us know how it shoots, the ammo your using and if the serial numbers match on the barrel and receiver.

Also, what scope are you going with?

I've got an old VariX III in 2.5-8 that i was thinking would look fitting on the gun.  Probably gonna stick with the old corelokts for now and some 00 buck.  Gonna make a great woods hog/deer gun

That is a great scope option.  I had that on my 12/.30-06 combo until I had to switch it out to put it on a .22 WMR.  I ended up putting on a Zeiss 1.8-5.5x32.

i'd love to find one of the old 1.8 zeiss's for a good deal.  I have a 3.5-10x44 zeiss on my ruger 30-06 and i have a 1.5-5 leupy on my 375 H&H.  The zeiss is mighty clear!

Has anyone ever seen a 12 gauge over a 45/70?

They are hard to find...

I have the Zeiss 1.8-5.5x32 on the 412's in 12/9.3x74R, 9.3x74R double rifle, 12/.30-06 and 12/.308.  On several of the drillings I have the VX-3 1.5-5x20.  I found the Leupolds are much easier to mount on the drilling and they are lighter than the modern German scopes

I bought 2 boxes of HSM 150 grain FMJ to got somewhat regulate and sight it in.  Also bought a box of 180 remington bonded core lokt.  Grabbed a box of 180 hornady round nose bullets to load once i shoot this other and get some brass.  That will probably be my load, since it gonna be a close range rig, less than 100yd.  Went to a gunshow yesterday and talked with a guy that made gun butt ammo sleeves.  Bought one for my little savage 24 and he's gonna make me one for the valmet with 4 12 gauge and 4 308's

Nice...

I have been using the Cabelas/Allen 12ga sleeve and sowing 2 of the 12 slots in half.  They are not any where as nice as the one you have...

went to my parents house out of town yesterday and made sure it would shoot.  Seems to be pretty close with the open sights.  I hope to make it to the range this weekend to try it out.
