Which one?
« on: July 15, 2012, 11:48:08 PM »
Okay here's the can of worms-I am going to get a 44 mag and I have narrowed my choices to a taurus either a m44,or a raging bull, a super blackhawk if I can get bisley grips and I am looking at a virginia dragoon.I used to own a blackhawk but did not care for the smallish grips-I have pretty big hands. I own a very nice Taurus 357 mdl 686 and like it a lot, but am concerned at some reports of double actions "loosening" up. Gun will be used for Deer/Hog hunting and of course lots of practice rounds. What say you-I apologize in advance for any rancor this might cause.

Another vote for anything Ruger.  I had a .357 Taurus, and it shot loose with less than 10krds through it, and the vast majority of those were light .38 Special loads, so I am not impressed by anything with Taurus stamped on the side.

Hard to go wrong with a Blackhawk IMO. I love my Super Blackhawk and 41 magnum blackhawk. However if I were to do it over I think I'd go with the 45 LC Bisley instead of the Super Blackhawk seeing as in these Ruger guns the 45 LC can rival the 44 mag.

.45 Colt doesn't rival the .44 Mag, it beats it.   ;D   Not enough to where the target will know it, but enough to make a difference to you as the shooter.  That's why all my .45 Colt handguns are Rugers.  Anything else would act like a handgrenade at my place.

Mama made me consolidate and pair down my collection, but I use to own a Ruger Super Blackhawk, Bisley Hunter in 44 magnum which was one sweet gun.  I too have large hands, but by going to the Bisley, I had room for each and every finger.  I now have a bit more custom gun in a 44 magnum Ruger Super Redhawk with a 5.5" barrel.  The scope is almost as long as the gun, but it still looks nice and is easy to hang onto and shoot accurately.  Smithy.

after a couple very bad experiences with tarus customer service id run and hide from one now. Probably better then a viginia dragoon though. they were good guns but there out of bussiness now so there is no customer service or parts dept. Hands down out of your choises id go with the ruger. Its not only the better gun of the three but they will be there to back you up in the future.

Get the Ruger SBK and put a Hogue mono grip on it. Perfect grip for big hands and it lets you control the pistol better. It does not roll back in your hand and hurt the web or your hand.

This is just my 2 cents. Ruger makes an excellent gun. I just bought a single six. I had a super blackhawk and didn,t like it. I have a s&w 629 4 inch I like but my deer handgun is a Taurus raging bull 44 mag with a 2-7 burris scope and I love it. It has put several deer in the freezer. To each his own.
