Foam padding question
« on: February 03, 2004, 08:38:57 AM »
Hi Al, Did not know exactly where to post this, so here I am!   :D I have several rifle size carry/shipping cases for both rifle and smaller ones that will hold several handguns.  When purchased new the cases came with usually three sheets of pretty sturdy foam rubber, top-egg crate type, solid center and bottom all fitted to the case. I'm sure you've done this, trace the rifle outline and cut out the shape and insert gun for transport (not storage).  WHERE on God's earth can you buy solid sheets of this type of foam rubber and what is it called (closed cell ??) ?? Been to craft stores and only found the really soft foam rubber, PLUS, expensive as hell!  Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated, thanks-Blackjac

blackjac:  try building supply houses - you should be able to substitute the foam rubber with fairly hard styrofoam insulation, maybe..........  HTH.  Mikey.

Call a local furniture or auto upholstry shop and tell them that you want some firm open cell foam.  They should have what you need.

How about simply contacting the maker of the case?  They will usually sell replacement foam for a modest fee..
