Got a confession to make..............
« on: June 05, 2012, 06:15:30 AM »
I'll probably get bounced out of Handiheaven for this....... I done sold two Handis and bought a L-E-V-E-R-G-U-N :o :o   My first "deer rifle" was my 53 year old 336 .30-30 and I still have a soft spot in my heart for the Marlins.  Shortly after I got my Handi .32-20, the devil on my left shoulder kept whispering "Get the Marlin 1894CL in .32-20".  I held him off for at least two years, and finally, weak and exhausted I gave in.  IT GETS DELIVERED TOMORROW.  Brand new in the box!!!  I spent this morning loading fodder for it. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I would like to have a 32-20 in a 1894 too. They are rare as hen's teeth. Let alone new in the box. Even the 357 is not that easy to get. I have an old 1894 in 44 Mag. I am not sure how old it is, but it was used When I got it in about 1980. It has a half cock on the hammer

My .336 is a Texan too.  Like a dummy, I took a picture of the wrong side.  The saddle ring is on the other.

Don't feel too bad, I own two Marlin leverguns, and a Browning.  Some Remington Pumps, and Semiautos.  Lots of Ruger bolt guns, and Semis.  4 TCs, and even a Weatherby.  Oh a bunch more too many to mention, but I own 10 H&Rs.  My go to guns are usually Handis,(30-06, 25-06, .223) then comes the Savage (.223/20ga), TC(.338Win Mag), and Weatherby(338/378), in that order.

Naw, your OK Peter, Handis and Marlins seem to go hand in hand. They are like kissin' cousins.  :o   Thats before you remember they are now owned by the same company!!

I have a good collection of Marlins too!!! Some years back I had all three of the CLs a 218, a 25-20 and a 32-20. I still have the 32-20. ;) I also have a bunch of 336's, 1894's, a 36, 1895's and 444's. I also have a T and a couple C's, CS, ADL's, LTD's, ER's, G's and even a M.  ;) ::) In 257, 308, 321, 357, 375, 380, 410, 427, 429 and 452 calibers!

I added some fancy factory wood (I live 15 miles from the North Haven plant) to my CL along with a Dillon replacement ladder site and a post front. I load it with a 115g lead, traditional SWC bullet and a tiny portion of PB powder. Its loafing along, shoots into nice small groups and thumps rabbits and squirrels with authority!
You already know the 2000+ 100G XTP loadings...

Yup, your in for a good time!!  ;D ;)

Pete,

I'll make a deal with you. I'll forgive you for buying a 32-20 levergun if you forgive me for buying the Ithaca 37 in 16 gauge that I bought recently. ;)

Im a lever fan too. I grew up on a winchester 94 top eject with a side mount scope that left me with many shiners, and an old h&r 12ga that kicked liked nobodies business. The only non handi i own is a marlin glenfield model 30 with the short magazine tube and some decent engraving on the stock.

 I did put a scout scope setup on a friends 1894 and It  took a while for him to get it back..........really a nice combination  ( I  did test it very thoughly ;D )

   Guess I'll throw a dirty word in here and mention Winchesters.  Not in any form are they as good as Marlin but a scopeless Winchester is so easy to carry.  Of the 1/2 dozen I have, I would never sell either of my Trappers, 30-30 or .44 mag.  Both shoot OK with peeps, I'd probably be disappointed were I to stick a scope on either to see how they group.   I still have a couple Marlins, would like to add a 16" 30-30 but they are as rare as hens teeth around here.

My dad bought an 1894 in 357 mag back in '83 at a confiscated weapons auction in Maine and i shot my first deer with it that same year. My sister now owns it and has taken several deer with it herself. Love that gun!
