125 gr. Golden Sabers in 38 S&W
« on: May 26, 2012, 05:47:26 PM »
I have a good bit of the 38 special golden saber bullets. Has any one tried the bullets in a 38 s&w caliber revolver. i have reloaded 125 gr. HP and Sp 38 special bullets with fair results as far as expansion. I was wondering if this bullet would work at the smaller 38 S&W velosities? In the summer and warmer months it is easier for me to carry the S&W in a lite snub nosed revolver. The crimping of the rem. bullet with the small band may be a problem also. ANY ADVISE WILL BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!!  Thanks

The 125 gr. Golden Sabers are .357 diameter.  The 38 S&W bullets are .361 so the GS would not engage the rifling, therefore, no accuracy at all not to mention reduced pressure and velocity.  I've loaded the GS in my 38 Spl. with good accuracy at around 950 fps out of a 4 " S&W Model 10.  I don't recall where I read it,  I think Remington recommends velocity over 800 fps (just not positive) for the GS to have reliable expansion.

Thanks a lot.  Never thought about the small band . Will use them in 357 with 38 brass loads.
