Good Stocks

I have purchased several stocks from Richard's and find them to be excellent.  I like the style- lots of grip and palm swell.  I am waiting for one to arrive as I speak.  Stay away from those "factory seconds" as they tend to have lots of figure, which does not make a good stock if the figure is in the wrong spots.

coopershooter - I have one on a customized 6.5 Swede and it is one beautiful piece of wood.  It took about 5 months to get the dang thing and they were no shrinking violets on the cost but it fit the rifle very well, needing minimal bedding, fits me perfectly and looks great.  HTH.  Mikey.

:D Hey there shooters,

My 2 cent worth is that they are a far cry from what we used to get from Fajen.

The ones I have seen were so - so and the one I have on hand isn't even in the same county as what I have rec'd from Fajen when they were still in business.

I am not speaking about quality of wood, but rather about the quality of machining.

Ordered a set of #1 wood  - the wood was OK, but the hole through the butt was/is way out of position and alienment, while the hole for the forend hold down screw was never bored.

Sorry, but Richards Micro Fit is about a level of 4- when compared to what I was able to get from Fajen.

Keep em coming!

Richard's stocks

I have had Richard's turn two blanks for me: one from a fine piece of Claro and another from a very good Turkish blank that was hand carried from Turkey to Hstn.
The Claro went on a Ruger MKII and the Turk is going on a 1908 DWM actioned 25-06.
They had me worried on the Turk wood as it took so long to get it back.  I called a couple of times and I think they put my order on the bottom of the pile each time.
Both stocks were machined very well.  Each required a minimal of inletting and the finishing was as it is with any other stock.  Outside was smooth with no chattering marks; recoil pad installed as it should be, and no grip or foreend piece was installed as I wanted to use Neider steel butt plate and grip cap.  IMHO, a black or any other color piece of wood stuck on the forend detracts from the appearance of the stock.  Same with the grip cap.
The Turkish walnut is an exceptional piece of wood with black horizontal lines and nearly 100% fiddleback.  Why would I want something stuck on the end?
I do like Richard's shadow line cheekpiece and the palm swell.  They will also remove the cheekpiece on a high comb rollover as did Robert's when they were in business.
I would use them again to turn my wood.
