The Pork Chop Express

Well here it is!   After many of my questions and MUCH APPRECIATED help from you folks, the Pork Chop Express is complete.   Well, I still need to add the logo from Jack Burton's truck in Big Trouble in Little China, but for all hog slaughterin' purposes she's ready to get down n' dirty. 

Overall length is 29.50".  Weight is 5.3lbs.  Barrel is 16.25".  Swapped the original stock for Choate front end and youth stock.   That's it!  Only frustrating part was having to pay a gunsmith to drill/tap the front sight hole.  With the cheap donor rifle and selling the stock, my total cost on this thumper is $185.

I really only intend to shoot factory equivalent loads in it, 300 JHP @ 1700-1900fps.  We'll see where she settles in, but I do imagine there will have to be a couple Marlin level loads tried "just cuz".

Looks like you followed the advice given in JAW'S.......you got a BIGGER boat!!!  Nice.  If THAT doesn;t do it not much else will  ;D

It'd make a nice little truck gun.  Although, at 5.3 lbs. I wouldn't want to be pushing my 405s through it at 1950 fps. :o :o OUCH.  It's a lot like my .357 max, but the max doesn't have an attitude. ::)   Good luck with it.  Hope ya get some porkies.

Very nice indeed :) 8)  At last count I had 30+ 45-70's I guess you could say I like that old girl  ;) ::) .

That is a fine looking shorty and I like it in that fine old caliber as well. It is a porky stopper for sure. Although I might not want to shoot it all day long while seated at the range, especially loaded with heavy bullets and heavy loads, I am sure after shooting it at a big pig while standing you won't even remember any recoil. A great gun for sure, now make some meat with it and post the pictures. Good luck and good eating buddy....<><.... :)

I think I had my hands on that Lam. Stock set a couple of weeks ago, but its new owner didn't turn his back long enough. ;D    Nice Shorty, I hope Arnold Ziffel appreciates your Handiwork. ;)

There is a couple others too! 30 GOVT, 6mm Navy and 30/03 Government and don't for get the 1911 GOVT!! LOL

The 45/70 is a great one and thru hand loading gets even better!!!

You know, I keep lookin at this and my yen for a 45-70 contender just keeps fadin away.  With a laser under the barrel to aim, you could use it one handed or swing from the hip.

47-70, I'll let you in on a little secret. 
Pigs aren't that hard to kill. 

The 300 JHP will be plenty.  I've killed hogs with 44mag handguns, with a 22lr pistol, and I killed a 325lb sow with a single shot from my Marlin 44mag @ about 75yds.  Hogs might be tougher than deer, but they really aren't that hard to drop on the spot.

FINALLY took the little thumper out for its first shots today.  I had tried several times before, but Murphy and his band of devious minions always shut me down.  I set up the Chrony and opened the box of Winchester 300gr JHP's. 

I had two errant readings, but my average for the 8 good readings was 1822fps from the short 16.25" barrel. 

I did not quite get it sighted in, because I forgot my Leatherman tool with the tiny screwdriver needed to drift the rear sight.  I did however have great results with it. It grouped 3 right at an inch @ 50yds with the iron sights, which is plenty good for what I intend to use it for. 

With the decent accuracy and minimal velocity loss, I declare this project a success!   My shoulder is none too happy about it, but it'll be worth the bruise once I start dropping hogs with it!

Congrats.  Try one of the slip on Limbsaver recoil pads.  Saves my shoulder a lotta pain.  ;)
