Bear Trapping
« on: February 25, 2012, 07:13:10 AM »
We have finally been able to get bears reclassified as Fur Bearers, making them eligible for trapping.  Canada has been trapping them for decades, so why not us.  There is ways to target adult bears, and avoid cubs.  there are even ways to target even big males only.  The environmentalist are screaming.  The Game Board is meeting next week, and the environmental groups are trying to get people aroused with a bunch of lies, saying we are going to kill all the mamas and leave the cubs to starve.  Or we will be catching cubs.  Or that the poor bears will chew their feet off the get out of the snares.  All untrue, bears will not chew their feet off to get out.  Cubs and smaller females will not be targeted.

But the one thing the environmental groups are not addressing, is that this is a means of reducing overall Bear populations.  We have too many Bears, they are killing too many baby Moose, Caribou, and Musk-Ox.  We have them coming into Towns and Villages killing dogs.  In Anchorage they are mauling and killing people on bike paths.  Chasing people around their homes.  Even coming into homes looking for things to eat, like the kids.

What do you guys think about this?  Rog, the graybearded old sourdough.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

The mainers trap them with snares. Foot snares that is and the say you can add a ton of tension to the pans with sticks and such.In the next year or so I will run a line with a fellow from near my camp. Good luck, Fatcat.

i have often had the desire to trap bears, but we have no bears.one thing i dont understand is that if you want to reduce the population, why would yu just be allowed to trap large male bears?it seems you would target female and yung bears which are easier to trap.you would reduce the pop quicker. or is this too simple for the game officials in your state to understand?i can totally understand if it is.
