30 06 handi with bc stock?
« on: April 16, 2012, 05:04:27 AM »
Hi there, I'm in the market for a new handi in '06, but I'd like to dress it up in a BC stock.. Did anyone try this? If so how's the recoil ?
ps: I'm ok with 2 oz hi brass in my bc stocked 12ga full choked pardner.

Im thinkin' the sharp bite on that cresent buttplate wouldnt be the most pleasant, but it sure would look good. FWIW, some guys have put lace-ons or slip-on on them, but they get a bit long in the reach. A better bet is to really try it and if you cant take it, you can always sell that stock here, or even put a good recoil pad on, which wont detract from the rest of the look too badly anyway.

I love the cresent shape, look and feel. For me, the steel butt plate doesn't hurt any more than the plastic butt plate. If it were me I'd do it. Form over funtion I always say. ;)

Just use a small Limbsaver or from Wally world Winchester branded limbsaver slip on recoil pad.  That's what I have been using with both my BC style buttstocks.  I never leave it on the wood at the end of the day and it doesn't mark 'em up at all that way.  Without one, my .45-70 is a 3-shot gun, then I wince, wince, wince.  hehe

That photo would look great on a calendar. ::)

bee,

IF you can shoot turkey loads with an unmodified BC stocked Pardner then shooting an 06' with a BC set will be a walk in the park.   My only thought would be to use the BC Carbine length forestock as IMO looks a tad better on the shorter rifle barrel.

It may just be in the eyes of the beholder BB. I think the longer BC forearm looks very nice on the shorter rifle barrels. I have my 7x57 Mauser Handi set up that way, very classic looking in my mind. Of course it's up to the look that beebsbarn is going after in his rifle....<><.... :)

Hi, I allready have a bc carbine stock set but I'd like to get another complete set for the 06' . The buff classic set is easier to come by I think.. And I can always swap forends.
So I guess I'll try to find one now...

I  have to say that the recoil in my 30-06 Handi is pretty stout in basic synthetic stock form. With some project work over the winter, I now have my 30-06 in Survivor stocks to which I have since added a Choate comb-riser and Pachmayr slip on decelerator pad. I have not yet had the chance to shoot it and if this doesn't work well, I will work up a new stock set from Gunstocks, probably rollover cheekpiece walnut.

Possible Gunstocks set for it:
