This iis what happens when it warms up...
« on: April 20, 2012, 04:06:58 AM »
...and uncle Arthur goes south.  ;D

Just trying to stay busy.
I like piddling around and right now my mood is refinishing stocks.
I like the looks of the straight stocks on Handi's.
Scored this set off the classifieds recently.

Here they are as delivered.

After some sanding and shaping.

Finished stock sitting on a 30-30.

I'm probably gonna put a classic Weaver K4 on it later.
Just put the Pentax 3-9 on it to see how she shot.

In case anyone cares it's another Cabot custom tint called Peppermill.
I was going for a color that would kind of blend in with the grey tree barks around here.
I think they turned out okay.

That looks like one of the stock sets off of the older style Huntsman rifles.   I guess you didn't get the barrel band with it.  Looks like you did a nice job.

Very nice Old Fart.  You're making me want to tackle a couple of old stock sets I've got collecting dust.  Perhaps this summer.

Great job.  I love straight stocks and have done two already.  Looking at the one on my .30-30 which has a recoil pad to cut straight and use on my Pardner which needs a pad more.
