Just was wondering if water filtration is important to you or not?

I have several ways around here to filter & purify water , some are store buys and others are more off the wall . What most people don't realize is that for short term water needs even without a powder supply or well pump , their Hot Water Heater holds about 60 gal of pottable water - ready to use .

Also the toilet tank holds another gal or so , along with maybe 3 gal just in the piping of their home , all very drinkable water .

It's vital!  Even on a day to day basis with easily available water the chemicals that are showing up are astounding.  We filter every drop we drink through a Berkey.

Current methods in my kit:

Sawyer Water Bottle/Gravity Filter
PUR/Katadyn Pump Filter
Potable Aqua PA Plus water purification tablets
Clorox Regular Bleach 16 ounces
Homemade still using WalMart steel enamel pot with rubber tubing for steam/condensation

I keep the last because I am in Florida and may only have access to brackish or salt water.

I keep a small water filter system in my emergency bag, along with a few days supply of food.  Living in tornado alley we need to be prepared for power loss, water loss and inability to travel for brief periods.  My filter is hand operated and will remove contaninments including those nasty single cell microbes in water and make it potable.

Rain barrel, and Clorox.  Good to go for 55 gallons of water.

I got 5 pounds of powdered charcoal through a school supply company before I retired from teaching...paid for it from my own pocket... and plan to use it between layers of masonry sand in a couple of 5-gallon buckets, if TSHTF.  Absolute last resort, though.

I have a small straw type filter in my bag. I also keep 5 gallons of clorox with my stored food. I dont really worry to much though. I have my own well and if it was contaminated wed all be in big trouble as its one of the underground feeds to lake superior. I do also have a couple of those bathtub blatters that fit in your tub to store water. Most of my water preperation involves storing a quanity so i dont have to run the pump very often.

I have a straw for emg. , a well , a creek, bleech but bleech can be hard on folks over 40. , and a charcoal filter to use when out of town and not sure about local water . Once in Mississippi the water out of the faucet was orange .
