Completed Platforms
« on: March 16, 2012, 04:39:19 PM »
Well, after fitting two 20 ga barrels to a newly acquired case colored SB1 along with BC furniture, I have completed several months of wheeling, dealing, hoarding and acquiring and now have complete platforms for my current H&R collection:

My most recent build: 45LC/454 Casull DIY Stutzen

My Long Range Handi in 30-06

And my back up Grouse gun 26" 20ga BCSG with Invector chokes that will serve with the 28" VR Topper DeLuxe Bull Barrel as my Southeast NY Slug Gun :

I'm glad winter seems to have come to a screeching halt so that I can get out and do things instead of conjuring up new projects!

If anyone has a case colored receiver, here's a good tip for protecting the coloring which will otherwise wear off fairly quickly. I got some "Case Colour Lacquer" from CSMC (and also got on their mailing list which is very bad for the wallet!). It's a clear lacquer (and I'm sure available from cheaper sources - I won't be surprised when Tim tellls me there's a recipe for home brew in the FAQ) that you brush on over the case coloring and then smooth up with a little steel wool when dry. Helps deepen and bring out the case colours and protects them from wear.

45LC/454 Casull DIY Stutzen

I'll take it! Oops, wrong forum. ;D  That is one sharp looking set you have there. I especially like the Stutzen.

Thanks, Dinny

Wow!!! Nice job, really pretty, especially the two with the walnut stocks.  Love the look of that wood!

I can just see it now, when you go for grouse with your hunting buddies. "Wow! Look at that Handi grouse/slug gun made by Krieghoff".  ;) ;D

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.

That Stutzen is pretty.  I envy your wood working skills.  I'm a klutz when it comes to that. ::)

The stocks on the Stutzen came semi finished from Gunstocks Inc for about $110 as I recall. I had never done any woodworking of any kind prior to this project. A Dremmel, wood cards (metal scrapers) and sandpaper were all it needed. I used the Birchwood-Casey Tru-oil kit (and Minwax stain instead of the awful stuff in the B-C kit). If I can do it, anyone can.
