.445 Load question
« on: March 15, 2012, 10:16:05 AM »
OK, I reamed my Handi to .445 Supermag. Bought some brass and I have some lil'gun, W296/H110, AA11680, and maybe a couple other suitable powders.

I also have some 225 grain FTX.

I can't find any load data using the 225 FTX in my Hornady manual. I did a search here, but everything I found was for XTP bullets.

Any of you guys shooting the 225 FTX in the SuperMag?

If so, a good starting load would be much appreciated.  :)

I've only used the 265gr FTX in mine with H110, but Hornady lists the 225gr FTX good to 2200fps MV, I'd use their TC 445 pistol data for the 240gr bullets, here's AA's data, the 240gr would be a good place to start if the barrel is on an SB2 frame, I can't say the same would be safe for use on an SB1 tho.  ;)

I use H110 for all of the weights I shot in the 445sm, much based on the John Taffin Tests data.  But work up with it

My 22" HR barrel speeds, all with H110

240gr rem,  35.5gr H110    2237fps
270 speer,  32gr H110       1980fps
300 nosler,  31gr H110      1903fps

I do not size the entire length of the case so the brass does not undergo bulge/shrink cycles near the base.  I had accuracy issues with the 300s and have not revisited that bullet since, I really just got thru the work up stage with the 270s.  240s shoot really well for me and what I shoot most.
