A-Bolt II

My local dealer has an A-Bolt II on the shelf that's calling me, but I don't see the II listed on the website or remember it from last year's catalog.  When did Browning drop the II designator?  Any idea how old the rifle on the shelf may be (I'm thinking negotiating edge here)?

I don't know for sure but I believe the A-bolt they are building now are the II models.  I just bought an A-bolt a few weeks ago and it has the II on the end of the box, and I think it is recent production.  I don't think the 1st generation A-bolts have been made for several years.  BTW, I gave $549.00 for my Composite Stalker which is chambered in 308Win.  I really like this rifle.

The A-bolt II replaced the A-bolt in 1994.  Current A-bolts are the "II" variant.  See here:

It's quick & easy to see the difference between the original and second A-bolt, as the bolt bodies look distinctly different.  The A-bolt II uses a non-rotating sleeve around the central bolt body.  Also, the II has an adjustable trigger.

Thanks for the answers.  I did end up buying the rifle.  It turned out to be an A-Bolt II Medallion (243 Win).  It had been on the shelf for awhile so the shop had discounted it quite nicely.  When they wrote up the sales papers, they had a hard time determining the model - A-bolt, A-Bolt II, or Medallion.  I'm not even sure they were consistent across all the forms, but that's their problem.  I guess they don't sell too many Brownings.  Anyway, I'm very pleased with the rifle and hope it shoots as good as it looks.

I have a feelng you will be well pleased with the A Bolt II, the worst thing about them is once you get one,you just arent happy with anything else. I find the weakest link in the A Bolt system is usually the one with the stock pressed up against his shoulder. They are by and large great shooters. I have a few of them.
