Cast bullets

Does anyone use cast bullets (without sabots) in their inlines?

Not yet, but I'm gonna try!   ;D
 
I got my first in-line, an old .45 Huntsman.  I wanted to see what all these non-sidelock shooters were crowing about... and just for grins don't cha know! ;)
 
Anyway, I cast some pure lead bullets out of my 240 gr., .430 Keith type mould and I'll try them wrapped in a .10 patch.
 
If your talkin nuthin but lead, I guess that would be the Lee R.E.A.L. bullet.   :-\   I got one in 50 cal, but not 45 and I don't want to spend the money to get one... 
 
I'd let you know how the patched bullets do but I'll probably forget about this thread by the time I get to do it... CRS ya know.   :-[

I have a 50 cal 385gr bullet Hornady Great Plains IIRC.
 
I have had it for years and did use it some in my Renegede. But never in my inlines. I plan on using them next year, so I'll be shooting it some, soon.

I use mostly R.E.A.L.'s in my .45 and .50 , I do have a maxi-mold for my .45 but don't shoot many of them..Sure cheaper  ;)

how old is your huntsman. i had one that was a 1-57 twist. it shot round ball great and minies not to bad. don't know the twist of the newer ones. i also shot some 45cal.  255grain wad cutters  i just cast lubed and shot them

I've shot pure lead cast bullets with sabots in my Knight for years.
They come out of the mold .432 dia. at about 252 gr and they work very well with MMP sabots.
I've never had a deer go more than 30 yards after the shot. They penetrate well the only bullet I have retrieved was from a 3yr old cull buck. It was a Texas heart shot at 175 yards the bullet was under the hide in his chest. No classic mushrooming but the bullet upset to measure .454 dia. the meplat went from .290 to .395 .

I see a 320 g R.E.A.L. Bullet offered.  But it supposedly drops out at 517... Kinda big no?  Also kinda light making for quite a short bullet. The profile looks OK but it just doesn't do it for me... Anyone try it? If so how did you use it? I mean resize shoot as cast lube? Etc.

I shoot the 250 grain R.E.A.L. out of my .50, have the sights set for it, Wouldn't win any target matches but it does ok on deer...The .45 I havn't shot too much so far.. it's a 200 grainer..like what I've seen so far.. The 50's and mouldes are probably gonna retire..

I shoot 'em as cast and lubed( although I pick over them and put any with any visual imperfection back in the pot) . The bottom end is slightly undersized makes starting easy...When fired the pure lead expands at the base, seals and as the forward bands engrave when loaded it starts spinning from the get go.
 My .50 i found works best with a 80gr equivalent load of pyrodex p..the pyrodex p being what I have the most of...So far just shooting 60gr.pyrodex p in the .45, gotta do some more experimenting with it..

That's good to hear as somehow I also have about five cans of "P" powder as well!!

90gr Pyrodex RS, Lubed wad, 250 REAL @ 100 yards with my custom .50cal sidelock and open sights.


They don't load hard at all, you don't need a short starter, just your thumb to push them down.

Knight KP1 with Bullshop cast 610 grain full bore conicals - 100 yards



A couple of Bullshop bullets and a Batchief Trashcan group - all full bore conicals.



Cheap, home cast conical from a Lee mold sized to .451 for use in a Knight Disc Elite



An assortment of targets fired with various cast conicals as well as one swaged bullet - all bore size and fired from Whites.   Knights make good conical shooters and my CVA Apex showed a lot of promise for use with conicals.



The Apex with just a few shots using Trashcans.  Center was sighters, bottom left a 3 shot group.

Lots of folks making some fine conicals for use in all sorts of muzzleloaders.

I make 50 cal  lee real 320 grn they weigh about 317 grns.   I took a nice 3x3 Blacktail last year with this bullet.
