season one set out onion sets, harvest part of them as the season progresses, cover the rest to winter over.  Season two the onion will grow greenery, but the bulb is tough and has poor flavor, but the greenery will produce a seed pod.  Harvest seed pod when it dries.  Season three plant onion seeds they will grow into season four's "sets"  Onions are one of the easiest semi-permanent beds you can have.
