I have heard that its better to change out your percussion #11 nipple for the musket nipple? Why? Also are the TC hot nipples better then the standard?

i've never had any problem with #11 caps/nipples. contrary to what some will tell ya musket caps don't burn any hotter. they just have more fire not hotter. also, it can be problematic findin' musket caps at least it is where i live and unless ya was buyin' a bunch with haz-mat it would be pricey orderin' them. for what it's worth and have a good'en friend, bubba.

My Repro of a Zuave from the 80's came with a spare nipple in 11.
The 11 gives you the option to use a capper.  Something handy in the cold.
The larger musket caps are a whole lot larger and you may have to change the hammer depending on the gun.  The hammer on the Zuave has a larger surface area and my TC Greyhawk is about the same size as a Musket Cap.

As long as you keep the powder dry, and your flash channel clear and oil free standard #11 nipple and caps work just fine.  In damp conditions (fog, mist, and light rain or snow) I find it is also easier to protect the load from moisture intrusion if I am using #11 cap and nipple.

Many years ago when I was new to blackpowder and there wasn't an Internet to learn from I thought I needed musket caps for sure ignition in my hunting rifle but I found they caused more problems than they solved. Any number of nipples for standard #11 caps will work just fine, I doubt you could ever prove one brand to be better than another. If you have uncertain ignition the problem is most likely somewhere downstream from the nipple, probably a partial blockage of the flash channel between nipple and powder chamber, oil in there is sure to cause trouble.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

RWS makes flangeless musket caps, can be sealed against weather just as easy as a #11 cap, lots more fire if ya want it.
