Henry 45C Big Boy vs Marlin 45Colt "Cowboy" (octagon barrels)
« on: February 12, 2012, 03:03:01 PM »
In terms of fit, reliability, and accuracy which do you prefer? I prefer the side eject for use with scope. I am interested in the lever guns to have a rifle that will match ammo as my Ruger single action revolvers...(I have two 45 Colt Rugers done by John Linebaugh). My daughter has been hunting with a 243 handi-rifle, and if I can get one of these lever actions to come close in terms of accuracy I may let her try her luck next year with the 45 colt...but I would like to get less than 2" groups...at most 3" for me to be really satisfied with it with a scope and bench. Any more than 3" and honestly I won't be happy.

If it were me, and if you appreciate quality firearms, I would forget the Henry rifle, it just doesn't have the quality that the Marlin has.

If you're a newby dude that doesn't know rifles and shooting that well, I would go with the Marlin since it is a quality rifle.

Do you get the feeling I don't like Henry brand rifles?

got a few henrys and a few marlins.  they're both good guns, but imho i think the henry is much smoother.  if i had to pick one, the henry would be it.
a gun owner that votes dem is an oxymoron with the emphasis on moron.

Henry has a smoother action right out of the box, but Marlin seems to be built better and I prefer Marlin's side loading port as opposed to loading the Henry from the top of the tube!
