weatherby vanguard 25-06???
« on: January 14, 2004, 07:06:48 AM »
I am considering purchasing a slightly used vanguard in 25-06. I would use it for varmits and deer antelope. it has a standard barrell. I have my choice of scopes 1 leupold Var x II 3.5 --10 or a bosh and lomb 6--42 both have AO.  I have other dedicated varmit guns so Im not worried about the skinny barrell.

any thoughts would be appreciated.

Your Vanguard is made by HOWA in Japan....an EXCELLENT company. While not a belted magnum, the .25-06 PERFORMS akin to the .257 Weatherby Magnum with the right handloads. To get the 'most' from the rifle, I'd forget the 6X scope and go with your variable. The .25-06, with the right bullet/powder combination CAN BE a 400 yard deer round.
