Match the handgun to the handi rifle?
« on: October 08, 2011, 03:01:09 PM »
Not sure if this is where this belongs, but here goes. every time i buy a new handi i build a shell belt to go with it, that of course requires a handgun to go on the belt. so what handguns do handi owners match with rifles afield.
45/70- ruger black hawk 45 long colt
308- ruger security six 357
58 cal- 44cal navy
30-06- ruger black 44 mag
223- ruger SSS 22 mag

wiley,

I like all 5 of  your combos, and I assume the both guns of combo #3 smoke when you shoot them.  Some folks like to have the pistol chamber the same round as their long gun, of course that would be tough on a fella that hunts with a 12 ga USH. :o

I say the 45-70 Handi should be matched-up with a BFR in 45-70. ;D

The same could be said for a .450 Marlin Handi rifle. :o

Better someone else than me though... ;)

just like the thought that grab the belt that matches the gun knife included, makes those last minute hunting excursions easy

I bought a 3 screw .44 mag super blackhawk to go with my .44 mag Handi.  I don't plan on sharing ammo between the 2 but it's nice to know they can...

Yah, same with the .45 LC, I make special carbine loads, but it is nice to know if I ran out, the others work.  POI is slight different, but not significantly so.  ;)

I've carried a Bisley Blackhawk along with a 45 carbine and back when i had a Winchester Trapper in 45 Colt and had the 45-70 stowed away as my heavy. I would cast my own Lee 300 grain bullets and tried paper patching some for the 45-70 but never really got the results i wanted

Kill and cook you quarry with one shot, I like it. ;)

I must be live in one of the backwards state (OH) as we can have only one hunting device while in the field.  Only way to carry a second weapon is if you have a CCW permit and the carry piece cannot be used for hunting, just protection.

As a joke I thought about an airweight 22 revolver with a 500s&w. But now that I think a little more, it sounds like a useful combo.

Colt, S&W and Ruger have made them.  I'm not sure if there is any current production.  I't'd be a very nice toy.

I have a 32-20 revolver, and for all (my) practical purposes a 38Sp (or .357Mag loaded with them) does as well or better.

Since I hunt all over the place and for different things.
Most of the time if I am carrying a centerfire rifle I carry a rimfire handgun.
