I have an Old Model Blackhawk (357) that I am considering sending off for conversion to 44 Special. To this end I also picked up a 7.5 inch take off barrel from a Super Blackhawk (front sight already removed).
How does this barrel get fitted; that is how does the smith line up the ejector housing screw hole? It seems as if it either needs to line up perfectly with the barrel tightened in place or it needs to go around again with fresh facing cuts at the shoulder and the cylinder end? If it goes another turn then doesn't the ejector rod housing then need to be properly shortened. If this is done then is the ejector rod travel still sufficient?
If any or all of this is actually the method, it seems as if it is more trouble and expense than just starting with a new tube?
