Tikka owners, please give some imput....
« on: January 03, 2004, 02:10:20 PM »
I have been considering the Tikka continental in the 7 mag.
I am attracted to the thicker, longer barrel for added accuracy; but do not want alot of additional weight. The webpage states less than a 1 lbs difference between the continental 7 mag (8 1/8 lbs) and the white tail hunter (7 1/4 lbs). Are these empty weight correct? If so that does not seem much of a difference for a carry rifle.

Also will the regular white tail hunter be about as accurate as the continental? I can not shoot the WH deluxe as I am left handed and have a problem with the roll over check piece.

Thanks for your input!

I have never heard of a Continental being sold in the USA.  :?

Let us know if you get a confimation from a dealer that can get you one. Also I don't believe the Deluxe is available anymore either. They were beautiful rifles...very similar to Browning Gold Medallions.

You need to look at the 2004 website.... http://www.tikka.fi/..... You will find those models have been discontinued...and I'm hanging on to mine

The Beretta catalog has not been updated yet, they are really slow on keeping current. The wood on the T-3 Hunter is not even close to the Whitetail Hunters quality. I would seriously consider one of the new Howa Hunters....very nice satn finished walnut...same price range or better. They shoot very well. Good Hunting!  :D

I got confirmation on the continental less than a week ago. Price was $585 for 7mm. Does anyone know if the stated weight is accurate and what is your openion of "more barrel"?

jonr,

Yes, the continentals are sold in the US.  I have seen them at gunsamerica from time to time.  In fact, I even shot one at the gun range in Houston, TX.

Was it accurate?  Yes.  I totally forgot the caliber and ammo, and I only shot 2 shots, but both shots were touching.  Temps were in the high 70s.

I can tell you the weight of the T3 Lite is correct. Just got mine a couple weeks ago and was amazed at how light it was (wanted the synthetic stock vice the wood on the hunter model). Will make a nice carry rifle at 6lbs 3oz, then add the ammo, and scope. Don't think I'd want one in a heavy recoil caliber, but I got it in .308 so I have no worries. If I use the factory rings (no bases required) total carry weight will be just over 7 pounds. (.338 Win Mag only weighs in at 6lbs 6oz...yikes!  That'd wake you up.)

If you want to get there through the Beretta web site the link is:
http://www.berettausa.com/product/product_rifles_main.htm
They only list the specs for the US imports, the Tikka site lists them all and you have to make sure you're looking at the US specs.

I have the T-3 in 300 WSM and didn't find the recoil unbearable at all even with the light weight of the rifle. I shot 180 PSP Winchester factory that chronographed at 2910 fps so it was a good load.

Zachary, am I to surmise that these are left over Continentals? The recent publicity and 2004 Tikka website eliminates everything except T-3s from currently available models.

I really don't know.  Come to think of it, you may be correct.  If they are not in the 2004 Beretta cataloge, then chances are they are no longer made.

I'm considering aTika T-3 lite synthetic.  Do they have a pencil type barrel?  Are they available in left hand models?  Is the stock on the right hand model suitable for left hand shooting?  I want a 22-250, mainly for shooting paper but occassionally for hunting.  Has anyone had any problems with this rifle?   How about accuracy?
