It would be great to have you boys come and shoot those rifles at the steel with us.  Like I said Cedar Valley Regulators, a posse of NCOWS has the home Range at Ackley, Iowa.  We shoot at least two, two day Buffalo Matches a year, Spring and Fall and now have started shooting as seperate events two day Long Range 8 to 1000 yd matches, along with some Mid Range stuff.  There is also the NCOWS National Buffalo shoot in the summer.  The local SASS club also has their State shoot at this range and they always have a long range rifle match of some sort every year in the fall. There is plenty of rifle shooting in this area and you are both close enough to come and enjoy it if ya have a mind to.  I'll be posting the dates of these shoots on a couple of the Boards later on.  Directions to the Ackley Range: about three miles east of Ackley, Ia on US HWY #20 turn south on the gravel at the Range sign about a half mile turn into the range at the T intersection sign.  Best regards steve witt

Steve,

Let's have everybody turn NORTH at the gravel road by the NCOWS sign.   Thats left if you're going east and right if you're going west

..and pards, The Prairie Fire Range at Ackley is one of the nicest places to shoot in the midwest! There is onsite camping available with electric hookups. It's also close enuff to a major community to stay in a motel and drive to the range daily during a multi day shoot. Added to that there is an onsite "Old West Town" where you can usually get good vittles and vendors are often there using the buildings to sell their wares. And the folks running things there are some of the nicest and most accomodating you'll ever meet!

Come visit! you'll love it! :D

I will take allong the .40-70 and may swing by and see if anyone is arround.
Heck I might swing by Wyoming and see if Kenny is out practicing for his match comming up in may.I dont know why I just dont move to Wyo.or MT.I spend more time there than I do here at home

:-D   Thanks for the invite and directions, looks about a 2hr drive from here.  Besides the 2day matches is the range open anytime for practice shooting?  I would like to drive some weekend if a few might be shooting to get some ideer's about what the hell I'm getting into
My brass and dies should be in this week and I'll have to round some boolets... or relube the cast ones I have on hand.  They are comercial cast in 300 and 400 gr weights.  I have a few pounds of pyro left over from MZ so I''ll probably shoot that stuff up 1st .
Lookin foreward to meeting some fellw shooters soon..  Kevin

Kevin & Lead Pot the range is usually open the Friday before the week end shoots for sight in.  Kevin, after you shoot up that stuff you mentioned, I would be thinking on getting and using some 500+ gr bullets.  Much less then that and you will have some difficulty knocking over the buffalo targets.  Our Buffalo shoots are usually knock down to score.    Iowa
PS Like the man said from HWY#20 turn NORTH on the gravel at the sign.
This is a T intersection so I guess you can only turn one way but it is north....sometimes us Yankees get North South mixrf up..
