This has probably been posted dozens of times, but I need some opinions.  I have this old gun: S&W 1917, U.S. Army with lanyard ring and army markings. It is in exellent condition, %95 bright blue. It appears to have been fired very little. I have fired it and it shoots and feels like most other pre-war[2] smiths. I have the original grips. but it has a set of reproduction grips that are faithful to the original design and wood.
 
Is a gun like this rare? Does it have great value? Is it just another 5-screw in good  condition? I haven't really dug into the market because you rarely see one like this for sale. I value value your opinion.

Not really "Rare" they made lots of them.   Value depends on the condition and if it has been refinished.  Most were refinished by military armories at some point in their lives.  They are a great gun and fun to shoot.
