Man, I'd love to get my hands on one of those Kimbers!

I have owned two Kimbers that were trash, I recently purchased another one (used) that seems to be OK so far.  It sshows little use and likely has not been fired over 2-3 hundred times.

I traaded the two "junk" Kimbers for a Sig 239 and Colt Python, both in like new condition.

I own several Sigs, never had one fail me, and have said for years, "if my but is ever on the line, I hope I'm packing a Sig." ::)

I've had one Kimber, a 4" Pro Carry.  Bought it new.  Very accurate, but I could not depend on its function.  I shot it enough that I replaced the spring at the recommended time, so I know it was broken in.  It would not feed 230grn hardball, or any other 230 grain cartridge.  It had to have something with a shorter OCL.  Settled on 185 grn hp and Wilson Combat magazines.  (The Kimber magazine was awful.)  Anyway, the thing still jammed about one time in every 5 or 6 magazines.
I sold it for almost what I paid and bought a Ruger SR9c.  I can't make the Ruger jam.  It just won't.  No malfunctions since I took it out of the box.  I know my 124 grn. +P+ rounds are still less potent that the .45, but at least I know for sure it will fire.  I can say the same thing about a Sig.

I think a person must have some knowledge of 1911 upkeep to keep one running right.  I've only had 2 in my life that worked out of the box, which I think a new gun should do.  One was a 70's Gold Cup and the other was a 5" Springfield mil-spec.

Ive never owned or fired a Kimber but I am very surprised to hear the criticism about the Sig 1911's.  Most of the criticism is usually aesthetic in nature about the slide being too square or the lack of holsters for the ones with tac rails. But I don't hear allot of gripes about accuracy or the ability to digest ammo.
I'm new to 1911's and was very pleased to pick up a SIG 1911 XO. Ive only put 200 rounds through it but no jams , no hiccups , and just plain accurate.

I did not have good luck with my Kimber. It would not feed hollow points.
With my P220 ST, I can pick just about any bullet shape, including SWC's and HP's.

Interesting.

Looking for the possible purchase of a new .40S&W, so checking at the two area gun shops.

Was surprised to see three used Kimbers at one shop, and the counter man's comment pretty much followed the comments in the earlier posts.

Also happened that this dealer was also a Sig dealer, and yep, the Kimbers were coming in the door and the Sigs were leaving with the one time Kimber owners.

Keep em coming!

The problem with most 1911's are they are based on a 100 year old design. In an effort to make them suitable for the 21 century they remove what reliability that was designed into the original. It was a wonderful design, and still is.

A few things have been improved upon in the ensueing 100 years, J. M. Browning's design among them. P-220 SIG is a good modern design and an evolutionary step towards a "modern" double stack polymer handgun.

Did you REALLY enjoy working on that old muscle car more than driving it? Do you carry tools in your trunk anymore? Have you used them?

Our local SO SWAT team carried Springfield Armory 1911s for years. They "upgraded to Kimbers" and in a month later sent them ALL back for QC issues and warranty issues. Back SA 1911s. My Agency experience with Sig P220 was excellent-politics downgraded to Glock. Now reired-my P220 and I are good friends.

Guess I am lucky.  I bought a new Kimber CDP Pro some time back.  Couple hundred rounds through it and not a hint of a problem.  Shooting cheap 230 gn Remington HP, Winchester 230 FMJ and Hornady Home Defense.

Absolutely love this pistol.
