TIKKA T3 in 338 Winchester Mag
« on: January 09, 2004, 06:08:55 AM »
I was at the local gun shop yesterday and they hve a T3 in 338 a blued barrel and walnut stock.  The price in it seems fair.  The rifle seems very light weight.  Has any one shot one what is the recoil like?  I have always wanted a 338 and have a 2.5x8 Leupold without a home.  I do not want to be hammered to death every time I pull the trigger.

Range time with a .338 is not all that bad---recoil is heavy--no doubt about that----get a pad---pull the rifle in close and hang on tight.

The phrase: carried a lot--shot a little comes into play here-----with a .338 you are buying a hunting gun---NOT a range gun.

Get a .223 or .308 if you want to shoot a lot of paper.

Hello

I have a Tikka in 338 Win Mag the recoil is there but managable.  I consider myself somewhat recoil sensitive but I have been able to handle the rifle at the range.  I have a Weaver Grand Slam 3.5x10 on mine and it has been plenty of eye relief.  Its a good combination.

I have a 338, but it's in a Winchester Classic Stainless with the Answer System.  Recoil is almost cut more than half, or at least that's how it feels like, but the Answer muzzle break is VERY LOUD.

If you want a .338 Mag, please lood at the .338 Remington Ultra Mag.  You can "down load" it to Win .338 Mag velocities if you want, but the accuracy and velocity of the .338 RUM ( and the reload-ability of the beltless case) will appeal to you.

Yankees,

The answer system is a company that has a patented muzzle break and recoil pad.  Combined together, they call it the "answer system."  I forgot what the web site is (I think it is "Answer Products), but if I find it, then I'll let you know.
