I just bought my second new 7600 Carbine 30-06 this summer, I should have never sold the first one I bought about 12 years ago. Awesome, powerful, accurate, nice quick handling carbines!
The first one I had liked Remington 150 gr. PSP Core-Lokt's. It would shoot close to an inch at 100 yards if I did my part. I was only planning on hunting deer with that one so I only tried 150 gr. factory ammo.
My current one is going to be used for deer, hogs and black bear so I've been shooting 165 gr. factory ammo. It seems to like Fusion 165 gr. over the 165 gr. Remington PSP Core-Lokt's and Winchester Super X ammo. A guy at the range gave me four 180 gr. Winchester Super X rounds to try the other day and the group was about 4 inches at 100 yards. The 165 gr. Fusion's are grouping around 1 1/2" to 1 3/4" at 100 yards.
There was a full size buck picture target at the 200 yard back stop. There was only one hole in it when we got there. It was low and back a little to far. I shot at it 4 times and hit the heart/lung area twice and high in the lungs twice. . . . .off the bench of course. My gun is zeroed at 100 yards so I had to aim about 4 inches high at 200 yards to hit where I wanted to. Chances are I'll never get a 200 yard shot while hunting with this carbine. I'm pretty happy with it so far. I'll get better with it the more I shoot it.
You're going to have to try different brands, bullet types and weights to see what you're carbine shoots the best.
Good luck, NYH1!
