An open invitation to a Michigan shoot. UPDATED
« on: July 18, 2011, 08:56:45 AM »
This invitation is to all of you on this forum.  It is an informal shoot, jugs and gongs, to be held at Frederick, MI, near Grayling Aug 5,6 and 7.  Mark and Marti Stevenson, the hosts, lost a son as a young man to Muscular Distrophy.  The shoot is called TSMS for Tom Stevenson Memorial Shoot.  The range is at a shallow gravel pit on State land, and some of us will be camping there.  Free permits are available.  Myself and 44 Man will be there, and bikerbeans is trying to make it.  A lot of fine folks attend and it is a family function.  You'll get to see, handle and shoot some very fine weapons.  You can bring whatever you'd like to shoot, handguns and MLs included.
Live mother-in-law targets are prohibited.

We usually bring something to donate to an auction on Saturday evening.  All proceeds go to MDA.  An item donation is not required, but it can be gun/shooting related, or anything else.

It's going to be an "all Handi" event for Patty and I with one exception, Patty's .270 Model 700 Mountain Rifle.

If any of you are interested in attending please PM me for details.  You can stay the whole weekend or come for only one day.

If you'll need a camping permit, please let me know ASAP so Tom can pick them up.  Looking forward to seeing you there.

Pete

UPDATE:

UPDATE:  Beth Gibson, a wonderful lady who attended the shoot each year has died of Cancer.  In honor of Beth, Mark and Marti Stevenson are donating the proceeds from the auction to the American Cancer Society.  If that makes any difference to those of you who have donated items to the auction for MDA,  let me know and I'll make sure those proceeds go to MDA.

It sounds like a good time. I have been in the Grayling area several times and it is beautiful there; the hills are great. Rode a lot of them on a snowmobile. Unfortunately, I will not be able to make it. This is our busy season and we are working 58 hour weeks and can not get it all done. I have not worked a Sunday yet, but I think it is coming soon. I just hate all the OT, since I do not get paid for it. Although, it beats the alternative.

Good Luck and Good Shooting to Pete and the rest of the gang.

Although I was born and mostly raised in MI, it's been a long time since I have been there. I would love to come, but Uncle Sam has other plans for me during those dates. I'm up to my armpits in alligators with this new job...

Shoot a dead ringer for me!

I went and looked for the Atlas and had Michigan right there when I was asked what I was up to... Mentioned a Handi shoot and was informed we had plans already. I was ready to program the Garmin. Thanks for the invite Pete but like many already stated Sorry we can't make it. But it sounds like it is for a great cause. Hope all that get to go have a fun and safe time.  thejanitor

How many people do you expect for the weekend shoot?

This year there will be fewer adults.  Several regulars can't make it, but there will be more kids and grandkids which is great.  It's good to see kids today getting into the outdoor sports.  I would guess about 20 - 25 adults and X number of kids.
