In my experience H110 is more of a full throttle load,  it has a very narrow load range -3% max.  2400 seems to be be a little more versatile med.-med. heavy load.  Max 2400 is still a thumper,  but H110 is the velocity powder.  I just haven't had any luck with 2400 in my handi yet.  My Bisley really likes a few 2400 loads.  I too am interested in what it will do at 100,  I'm crossing my fingers and toes!  Oh, and by the way, does anybody know what powder Hornady uses in their .44 Leverevolution?  I pulled a factory load the other day and it looked just like H110.

And 2400 is FILTHY!!!! in my handi!  Look down the barrel and it seems like half the powder that was in the case is left unburnt in there.  The downside to H110 for me is that it does not meter well in my cheap Lee Perfect powder measure.  It is so fine that it seeps out through the lever and drum giving inconsistant charges and really making a mess.  So, presently I have to hand weigh each H110 charge I put into a case.  Makes for real consistant powder charges that way, though!

There are way better powder measures out there, usually a few at the gun shows reasonably priced, or here on the classifieds. Gee, Ive probably got a couple of 'spares' buried in my shop like most of us long time reloaders, so just get a nicer one and save that one for what works best in it.
BTW, what residue you see in the barrel is not 'unburned' powder. If you doubt this, take a rod and dry patch and push it out onto a clean container and put it under a scope; or in a pile and try to light it off.

the book i was using didn't show hogdon powders and i've always had good results with alliant thats why i chose 2400, i haven't noticed that it was filthy then again i'm not real fond of squeaky clean barrels.mine get cleaned maybe twice a year .i'll take a look to see how bad it is thanks for the heads up.i use a rcbs uniflow so small powders meter great its the damn stick powders that get me.

A quick look at Hdy#7 doesn't show 2400 for any rifle loads for the 44 Rem.
I've considered it to slow. Even IMR4227 is slow for 240 gr bullets.

PS I do see Speer lists that powder...............oh well :-\

scatterbrain- hndy #7, pg 652, 17.3gr to 21.5gr, 1400 to 1700 fps
To OP- i made a mistake in an earlier post my plinking load is under book min 15.3gr shoots great at 50 but runs out of steam by the time it gets to 100, 19.5 was the first test batch with the xtp's shot ok but was working a load for 2 rifles my handi and my sons marlin 1894.
his gun is the larger rifle bore so it wanted a bit more rpm with the .430 dia i was considering cast but haven't found a commercial source yet. Anyone ever buy from Moyer's they are about a 45min drive from me so i could save shipping.i checked their site they only show .429 and .430

Well, as requested, here's what I did with that load at 104 yds.  I'm satisfied!

I crimp all my .44 loads, h110 especially!  It likes a HEAVY crimp, and a tight fitting bullet. Not going to crimp any heavier, I think it is what it is.  With my setup this is probably as good as I'M going to get.  Bushnell elite 3200 1.5-4.5x scope,  and it has a heavy reticle.  The reticle is 2" thick at 100 yards.  Like you said, this is a dedicated deer rifle that I will be taking with me this fall and will work for my range limitations.  Really for anything in bow range (40 yds. and in) I'll most likely use my .44 Ruger Bisley, the rifle is just in case that buck of a lifetime strolls by at 75 yds.
