Tikka Long Throat?
« on: January 01, 2004, 12:37:58 PM »
Just curious, has anyone else run into this with T-3 300 WSM? I am not too happy with it but will wait til I get to range to see what impact it has on overall accuracy. Problem is with 165's and lower grain bullets not being able to set close to lands with 1 bullet diamter in case. In fact, not even close to 1 diameter for 165 BT's and 165 Part. Real disappointing to find this out. Does anyone else have similar problem or is my rifle luck of draw for long throat?

One of my Sako's has a like deal.  I measured the oal for the rifle and then realized that these cartridges would not fit in the magazine.  Too long.  But even with the then shorter cartridges it shoots 1/4" groups with one load and shoots moa or better with a couple of others.  You will just have to shoot it and see.

Guess I'm not seeing any problem here as long as the rifle shoots good----RIGHT????

Go shoot the thing before you start complaining.

I see a long throat as possible flaw but that is just the way I look at chamber specifications. I am a little disappointed that Tikka reamed this chamber this way. I have sent them a note and will see what they have to say. It shot OK with 180's but it still had 0.200 jump to lands. The 165's will need a stop watch to reach them :-D
