shoot rim fire in an Encore with out any mods: GOT WHAT I NEED PLZ LOCK IT.

looking to get a 22 or 17 rim fire for my Encore and have been told that you don't need the mod for shooting. Is this true? It is a new frame. How do they do this is the bore drilled off, up or down? How dose it work?
