Need 308 Win load
« on: July 11, 2011, 10:10:29 AM »
Looking for some advice.  I have an Encore rifle with 26" barrel.  I am trying to find the "sweet spot" load.  The two bullets I am currently working with are the 168 gr match bullet and the Barnes 165gr hollow point.  Anybody try these?

I hand load a hunting round that has me putting down 'sub' half MOA groups...average about .335" for 3 shots at 100yds.

I use 150gr Sierra Gamekings pushed by 44grs of IMR4064.

Not bad for a soft point bullet.

Good luck!

Have not shot those two bullets, but ww748 and rl15 have both worked very well for me with similar weight bullets.
In the 1920's "sheeple" was a term coined by the National Socialist Party in Germany to describe people that would not vote for Hitler. In the 1930's they held Hitler as the only one that would bring pride back to Germany and bring the budget and economy back.....

Varget, IMR 4064, IMR 4895 or RL15 will get you what you want. Don't work up a load with your cup and core Match Bullet and then just sub that Barns bullet or you could get super high pressure. Barns bullets need to jump a good ways to the lands and use less powder to reach the same velocity and pressure as cup and core bullets. If memory serves me I think Barns states that their bullets should not be seated any closer than 30 thousands to the lands.
