Next up, DOVE season
« on: July 08, 2011, 05:05:00 PM »
With July 4th safely out of the way, the next holiday is Labor Day. Here in good ole MO, Sept 1st is the opening of Dove season, and Teal season falls in there also. I have watched all the rifle info since Christmas practically, but I could shoot a deer with a different barrel for several years before I had to reload or do any work on them. The shotguns are a different story though, I guess I should look for a trap gun, or a 20 ga TDC. I wonder if the shotgun guys just talk less, or have a lot more action  ;) Any way, I can only shoot 3 deer max, but I could shoot a dozen dove a day. Last year turned out to be a bust, but so far this year is looking much better. Hope springs eternal.

Here`s to a bountiful dove season for you, m1947!
One of my favorite sports. Used to do alot of dove hunting here in Colorado. but the weather can be fickle some years and drive the doves south by opening day. Although there are always some stragglers to keep it somewhat interesting. We also have the luxury of shooting Eurasian( Ringneck) doves if you can find them and no limit on them. Just have to be able to identify the target to be sure of species. You guys have any Eurasian doves in Missouri?

I am recent to shotgunning, it all started with a 20ga. Topper a couple of years ago that made me understand. Now I have it, a SxS and O/U, all in 20 and the dbls have dbl triggers. I can miss with all of them!  ;) ; they are all under 6#, balance and carry nice too.
I think I will give my wife the H&R and we can go 'a rambin', no need to try to squeeze it all in our 10 day gun deer season.
I do more plinkin' and target shooting with the rifles, so they get used all year, except for deep winter, maybe thats why there is more chatter about them.

per streak above, I think we have a few, but they are just counted as dove, I dont recall having shot any. I have a good enough battery, but would still like to get a TDC 20 ga one of these days, they are good looking guns. I am trying to get motivated to do some reloading , or anything for that matter. It is 96 outside, I piddled at the golf course but it is even too hot for that. The AC & fridge right here....... too strong a pull, just cant get off the couch.

Like you m1947! I have a large battery of dove shotguns, but this year I will be trying to hunt with my grandfather`s Win Mod 37 in a 16 ga. I inherited it from my mother when she passed away last year. The gun is essentially new. I don`t believe over three shells hasd been fired through this gun. It handles fast and smooth, so looking to see how it does on those pesky doves!
