I just bought a 69A at an estate auction yesterday. Got a decent deal and the gun is in really good shape for it's age.
My Dad owns one of these. He passed-away last September. He asked me a few times over the years what I'd like to inherit from him & I always told him if he gave everything else to the rest of my family, I just wanted the rifle.
His Dad bought it for him new back in 1945. If I get it (Right now it still belongs to my Mom & hopefully will for a long time yet), it will stay in the family.
At any rate, I got the opportunity to purchase my own yesterday and hopped on it. I fired it a few times last night & had forgotten what a pleasure it is to shoot these guns!
I didn't set up a target, rather I just loaded the 5-shot clip and chose a suitable target, which happened to be a length of re-rod in the garden used as a tomato stake. It was about 40-50 yards away. It was around half inch diameter. I nailed it on the second shot & giggled like a kid as the bar wobbled. Lol!
I fired the last three shots indiscriminately, not really aiming carefully but just enjoying working the bolt, the feel of the rifle and the crisp trigger. It was a real treat!
I plan on getting it out again this evening and setting up an actual target to see how well it really shoots. I haven't used open sights (other than pistols) for a while, so it was kind of nice.
Maybe I'll get some pics up later.
Thanks!
