as far as i know , the 2009 special runs won't be thought about or decided upon until around august/september and even then it's sometimes later.
i don't know about the custom shop but , i'll try to check with remington and see what they say but , even if it was they may only be willing to chamber the standard factory chamberings and not custom shop chamberings as the custom shop guns were kind of pricey. maybe that's why but i'll try to find out

if it's something you really want , and can afford it , then by all means , GO FOR IT !!!!

i was thinking about doing something similar myself but , on the .35 whelen version , the bolt heads should be the same size on those .

I'm having trouble with the idea of spending 1K on this project. Plus I know it sounds crazy but I hate the idea of chopping up one of these special run guns.

...i know cause my brother has a winchester 71 in 358...
Better check again, the M71 was chambered in .348 WCF (although I have seen one in .33 WCF it may have been rebarrelled).  Since the M71 only handles rimmed cases, your brother either has a .348-chambered rifle, or doesn't have an M71.

you don't really have to chop the rifle up , just have a baffle inserted into the barrel to shorten the chamber to the .358 win. cartridge.

or find an older m7600 ( you should be able to get an older one cheaper )  and chop that one up.
i know it sounds crazy but if you really would like one , after all you only live once.

Several years ago I gave up on Remington ever chambering a 358W in the 760 or the 7600.  I found a very nice used M760 in 35Rem at a gun show for $300 and had it rechambered to 358W for another $100.  Excellent shooter with 200gr Hornady's or 220 Speer's and H4895.

I have quite a few 760's/7600's in various calibers including 35R and 35W and certainly didn't need it but it is a novelty.  It fills the void--laughing here--between the 35R and 35W.
